Lion
The lion is a large carnivorous mammal found in Africa and some parts of Asia. They are the second-largest living cat after the tiger and the only cat species with a mane. The lion’s mane is most developed in males and is thought to play a role in attracting females and intimidating rivals. They are apex predators and typically hunt in groups called prides, which are composed of related females, their cubs and one or two dominant males. The lion’s diet mainly consists of ungulates such as zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo, but they will also take small prey such as hares, birds and reptiles. Lions are known for their social behavior, they have a complex social structure and they communicate with each other through a variety of vocalizations, such as roars, growls, and grunts. African lions are listed as vulnerable by IUCN and their population is decreasing due to habitat loss and hunting.
